Portrait of a Lady on Fire2019
On a remote island in 18th-century Brittany, painter Marianne is secretly commissioned to paint the wedding portrait of Héloïse, a young woman resisting an arranged marriage. Posing as her companion by day and studying her in secret, Marianne finds an intimacy growing between them that neither can outrun.
A Love Painted in Secret
Marianne arrives on an isolated coastal estate with a covert assignment: paint Héloïse's wedding portrait without her knowledge, since Héloïse has refused every previous painter sent to capture her likeness. As the two women share their days walking the cliffs and evenings by candlelight, careful observation turns into mutual longing — a bond that can only exist within the borrowed time before the portrait is finished.
