About the Series

A Con, A Confession

Sue Trinder is a "fingersmith" — a pickpocket living in the London slums, orphaned as an infant and raised by Mrs. Sucksby to be a thief. When Richard "Gentleman" Rivers arrives with an elaborate scheme to swindle the wealthy heiress Maud Lilly out of her inheritance, Sue agrees to become Maud's maid and win her trust, setting the plan into motion. But as the two women grow closer, Sue's carefully laid deception collides with an undeniable love — and when the truth finally comes out, both women are cast into their own private hell, each questioning who has really been deceiving whom.
